Flowing for freedom
I just seen something on social media about becoming a millionaire.
It made me think.
I was taught money was freedom. I've had money and I didn't feel free, I'm on job seekers and a 0 hours minimum wage job and I feel free.
Money was a shield, a barrier and a tool that helped me disengage. Now I'm regularly in the minus, the barrier had to be broken down, the shield was snatched away and I have been forced to engage even when I don't feel comfortable. I've had to get creative.

Money is sweet, I was on 80€ p/h living a middle class dream, I could afford to have duck every week, brand new car, nice neighbourhood, pursue expensive hobbies, I've been married, I went to the first Afronation the same year I was VVIP at Glastonbury, I've taken a taxi from Belfast to Dublin, I would visit Amsterdam just for a good night out, I would give generously to random strangers on the internet, I was 26 fully providing for another adult, I've attended private A&Es and been prescribed 250€ a week medication for my heart and I always had 50€ for my friends siblings birthdays. I've been out and about.
Watch the short film I made on ‘Omítórera’.
I've been hedonistic and money lubricated the pleasure. My reality was mine and indulgent.
Then came the only constant: change.
My ancestors shared with me that water is enough and I believe them. I'm giving away my material things, I'll be giving away the small money I have and I will return to the earth. Return to nature and free myself from paperwork. Return to water and free myself from resource hoarding. Return to art and free myself from markets.
I will flow and be free.
I will live a free and expansive life. It will be challenging, I will be tempted by paperwork, seduced by assets and accolades and my spiral will be just that, a spiral with no straight lines insight and my ancestors will remind me they have me and water is enough for us.
Omítórera is out today on Subvert, jam.coop and Bandcamp. Listen to my live performance on Soundcloud.
Tomorrow it might reach one or two streaming platforms, Audiomack for sure. There may be a few platforms that share the song but the spirit of the song has transformed me and that will refresh my spirit way more than any reception. Àṣẹ.
