Resolution 1003 unlocked something in me
Re-remembered my humanity.
I will hate those that hate me
I will mock those that mock me
I am no-ones meek Christian woman
I am no-ones obedient slave
I am no-ones long-suffering auntie
I am no-ones punching bag
I am a human being
Thirsty for revenge
Desperate for justice
Balancing the light and shadows
Dawn, day and dusk dwell in me
I will not be merciful
My craze pass your craze
My love pass your love
My hope pass your hope
I will receive respect and affection
I will respond with respect and affection
My tears are reserved
My mourning exclusive
I am always indifferent to indifference
I am nobodies, no entities, no institutions, no governments
No mans, no persons, no tyrants, no dictators, no CEOs
No spirits, no associations, no clubs, no cults
Emotional rag-doll or socialised doormat
I dictate my humanity
I am mine for myself.

A black and white photo of large bullets

I wrote this poem inspired by current events and my favourite June Jordan poem : Resolution #1003. It has been difficult to unlearn the lessons of meekness, humility and long suffering I was taught in Sunday School, even after departing from my Christian journey I was a pacifist that wholly opposed to violence in any setting, for any reason. I see how some virtues indoctrinated into me were there to have me squash my feelings, my passion and my humanity. Resolution #1003 reminded me that I am mine for myself.

The first iteration of this poem was first published on my personal blog which is yet to launch but open to beta readers.
